I coach a friend for free and I get a lot back in return in terms of gratitude, responsiveness and results. If he didn't listen or act on our conversations then I'd have stopped by now but I do get rewarded in growth and satisfaction so my time is well spent.

Yes. Under certain circumstances I'm happy to train someone, or be a consultant to someone for free. Usually it is done as a 'thank you' gesture to an established client, but occasionally I have done it for someone earnest about improving their fitness, but just not well-heeled. The goodwill this generates, and the satisfaction I derive from helping someone to improve their health is something you can't put a price tag on. It creates instant loyalty and free word-of-mouth advertising. I've also volunteered my time and knowledge to train folks in a geriatric facility, and it is one of the best experiences I've ever had. In fact, I regard it as an honor. While they certainly benefited from the training, I received far more from it than they did

I have coached people for free, yes and sometimes it was really worth it these people followed me and still do and have ended being my angels in promoting my services.

However I have attracted in the past prospects to whom I offered strategy sessions for free, that were just hungry for " free stuff".

Since then I, i filter my prospects and with powerful questions to determine if these prospects are seriously motivated to make a change in their lives...

Great question, thanks for asking!

We give our work away for free sometimes. We have never really stopped to think if we "should" or not, sometimes it just seems like the right thing to do, so we step up. We offer a service that provides early warning of cardiovascular issues through non invasive screening, and if someone really can't afford our service, we will produce a "coupon" that allows them to save face, and allows us to save (or improve) a life. Well worth it!

Early in my film making career, I had several mentors, people in the business, that took extra time to explain their craft. They were successful business people but invested in others with no promise of reward.
I now own and operate specialty film equipment,(jib arms, steadicam, etc). A few years back, I started to train anybody that wanted to learn it. I had few takers, and my competition thought I was crazy. From that experiment, I gained a very good friend and co-worker. We do a lot of free shoots for young film makers, bands, and not for profits. It is a wonderful cycle of good work, new friends, and pretty damn good marketing.

I see a lot of coaching offers.

Well, I'm a bit different. I'm a technical and business guy, as well as a handy-man.

I never said "No" to anyone that asked me for help. And it doesn't matter if it is moving furniture, coaching on some methodology or technology, or if it is to change the oil on the car!

If i see someone that genuinely needs help, I just give it away. I have worked with people for weeks, and weeks, just to help them to recover a project that was going down the drain, or to prepare for an exam. It doesn't matter what it was done in specific, I just love to help!

I can't make a difference in the world. But I can make a difference on the world of someone!

It seems that we do this anyway, not always intentionally. Coaching is now largely how I choose to communicate. It's not always easy to stop exhibiting a know-it-all attitude and a desire to give advice, but it is worth the effort.

Yes, I have coached a client for free because she was extremely responsive and was seeing tremendous results with her running, but she hit a bad financial spot.
I ended up making up fake offers such as a free birthday month and then a free loyalty month and so on as she would not accept free training as she regarded it as 'charity'...

Anyway, she continued with tremendous and positive results, something that gave me a lot of work satisfaction.

I am the Volunteer Queen. I have given my time, my products, and my creativiity to help others- for free. Maybe it is a fault of mine but I figure maybe someday it will come back to me. Plus, I enjoy helping others.
